The Impossible Machine

The Impossible Machine is a shop run by Dutch visual artist and designer Mirjam Dijkema (1984) who studied Design, Illustration and Art History.

Her printing career started at the famous underground music club VERA, where she has been employed since 2007. At the Vera club, Mirjam designs and screen prints posters by hand, arranges exhibitions and is in charge of the print shop in general.

Mirjams work is exhibited all over the world and she gave numerous lectures about the gig poster and screen printing. Together with her students at Minerva School of Arts in Groningen, she investigates the limits of the screen printing technique and helps them to write and design essays on illustration and graphics.

As a poster artist he has worked outside of the Vera Club as well and made numerous designs for bands like Soundgarden, Dinosaur Jr., Fleet Foxes, Bright Eyes and many many more. Mirjam has just lived and worked in Mexico City to work with different Mexican artists and designers. Her work balances between design and fine arts, and involves collage, drawing and writing.
